Hi everyone, I've got a 1979 35hp John sea horse. There are two bolts that holds the starter into place. The screw hole behind the choking mechanism is stripped...I screw the bolt in all the way then it just keeps turning. A repairman told me about a "Healer Coil"?spell? I've never heard of this and where can I get one? If not that, what else can I use?

Also, the starter is stuck in the up position, I've heard that using a lubricant is a no-no. Are the starters supposed to be bone dry or is it safe to put a couple drops of oil on the shaft? Thanks

a couple of drops of 3 n 1 oil, then work the bendix turning it. you can get a machine shop to retap the hole, i would not use a heli-coil in that place. there is a lot of strain on the mounting.

Oh I got you...you feel those inserts aren't made to withstand the outboard's vibration heh? I was trying to avoid taking it into a shop but looks like that'll be the best route in this case. Oh, I'll throw a couple drops of oil on the shaft like you recommended...hopefully that works. Thanks!!!
