I posted a question a few days ago with great response....thanks every one! The second part is I bought the threaded replacement sleeve for spark plug hole at napa. When i re threaded the hole and screwed in the sleeve, there is about a 1/4" of thread sticking past the hole. (inside the head) The question is well this cause any problems with the piston hitting it or firing problems? Also when i screwed in the spark plug in oppsite hole on the same head, thats were i noticed the sleeve sticks about a 1/8" of inch or so past the spark plug....any input would be great!! thanks....OUT2C

The helicoil length should be the same length as the threads in the cylinder head.

If the heli-coil projects beyond the inside surface of the head with it's sharp end, it can become a glow plug, such as in a model airplane engine. This will cause pre-ignition, and burn a hole thru the piston. Someone is going to say no problem as they have got away with it. It will depend on the engine , but install it properly. Don't even think about it without taking the head off.

Quick question....I didn't use a heli-coil...it was just a treaded insert sleeve.....and the sleeve it self sticks an 1/8" or a 1/4" into the inside of the head....for see problems or should i get a new head?...thanks out2c

The guy at the parts store gave you the wrong kit. KD tools makes these inserts, and they cme in 3 (?) lengths. They ae not as good as a real HeliCoil. The Helicoil brand insert kit is costlier and much better than the KD type insert. Spring for the extra bucks and do it right.
