struck gold yesterday!

I took a little time yesterday to peak at the virginia craigslist adds and came across something too good to pass up. Late 70's 70hp johnson. Went and looked at it. It had been sitting on a pallet behind this guys shop for a month or two. Stood it up, did compression test, 120 on all 3. The thing fired up and ran like it just came off the assembly line! $400 bucks and it is mine. I need to find a set of controls for it (hint hint) tho. Does not have trim and tilt. He also had a new in the box cmc pt130. Picked it up for 250! Things are lookin good. The ole catfish hunter will soon be resurrected lol. Helluva deal, couldn't pass it up. Wife aint to thrilled tho haha. She knows that when my boat is right, "I'm gonna miss her" by brad paisley is my theme song. Hahahahaha

How good are the evinrudes. Found a 75 hp early 70s for around $650. would that be a good buy? Also how did you do your compression testing?

Any standard remote control from 1973 through 1995 with a red plug harness will be plug compatible with your engine harness; the newer the better.

Start yourself a new thread geason and you will get plenty of help, as it is a simple procedure once you know how. Just dont want to get the threads confused with multiple posters.

I may have struck some gold of my own, a 1969 115 Evinrude, rebuilt by a local marina 5 years ago - never been run since rebuild - $300.00 !! w/ controls. It's a pushbutton shift? Anyone know of any issues with that?

The '69 and '70 115 had a very complex, very expensive, and very unreliable electronic ignition system. I doubt that many parts are still available for it.
