so I get my parts the other day and finally had a day off to start working on the boat. First thing i do is replace the control cables. old cables dont want to come out of the controller. A little bit of saying a few choice words, done. Then I go to rebuild the carbs, had to undo the cables, dangit, rebuild the carbs and start putting it back together and the top gasket moves, line it up and the bottom gasket moves. Arghhhhh. Finally get the carbs on and the cables back on. Today go to replace the impeller, guess what, had to take the cables off the motor again. Had no problems with the impeller installation, go to put the lower unit back on and cant get the water tubes to line up. Get it back together with the help of my cousin, go to re attach the shift rod and the eye is turned, in my infinate wisdom, i fashion a hook out of a piece of wire and pull the eyelet into position. Cant get the wire out. 15 to 20 minutes of cursing and yelling, get it out and put all the pieces together. I guess i did the work bass ackwards, it would have been easier to do the impeller first and the cables last. I hate being a rookie, makes me feel incompotent. All good now. Tomorrow go and get a battery and see if this thing will fire up. Wish me luck............

Re: stubborn boat

If your motor has a mind of its own you might have to cuss it for it to not embarass you at the ramp. My buddy used to have a '78 Johnson 115 that would only start like it was supposed to when he called it a cold natured SOB.

Other than that, good luck with the stubborn hole in the water you throw money into:D

Upside: You can now remove those cables with your eyes closed. It's all in how you look at it.:D

Best used as knee pads while working on the motor!;)
Nothing beats the REAL service manual....

dangit you mean i gotta 54 dollar pair of kneepads. i went with this one cause it was just for my motor specifically. it looks like the real service manual just photocopied. did i just get taken for a ride on that.
