I have an 1984 sunray OMC 305 800 outdrive. I am at the river and the tilt motor siezed. The boat is propped on wood so I could get it up the dock. I have removed the outdrive so I can trailer it home, however, it is still connected by the shift cable.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the shift cable so that I can remove the outdrive....... Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Thank you

You need to remove the retainer clip on the outboard side of the intermediate housing, where the cable goes thru same. Then you need to disconnect the cable inside the converter housing at the back of the engine. Then you need to both push and pull the cable back out thru the intermediate housing. They can be stubborn. As I said, both pushing and pulling, back and forth will usually loosen it. Then just pull it out the back.

Got it done and got the boat home..... Thank you very much Boomyal. I was so frustrated in the 110 degree Mohave heat trying to figure out where that came apart, I almost took a hacksaw to it.

All is well now, got the out drive off and the boat home.

Thanks again.

Just a little note of help, Pull your NEG terminal off your battery.
You could short it across a solenoid and burn through a $300
shift cable:%

next time remove the tilt quadrant, thing that looks like a quarter circle with teeth on it, lift the drive by hand and then bolt it back on. cutting that cable would be a very costly mistake
