Stuck bearing housing

I have spent the last 2 hours with a flywheel puller on the bearing housing on my 1985 90 hp Evinrude soaking it with WD to no avail. Does anyone know any special tricks to getting a difficult bearing housing out? Slide hammer? Last resort Heat? thanks

Heat will be the first resort. Heat the area where the O ring is. Look inside to get an idea where it is and heat from the outside. It'll come.<br /><br />Good luck!

Hey Kart33, and dhadley,<br />I sure feel sorry for you guys that have to work on salt water engines. I've heard that your first tool of choice is a torch. I guess that I'm lucky all that I usually have to do is remove the 4 bolts, slip a slide hammer behind one of the bearing carrier legs, give a few taps and out she comes.<br />I was born and reared just outside of Orlando, but I'm sure glad that I moved away from a salt water area before I entered this trade.

Kart, I assume we are talking about lower unit cage.your best bet for that is going to be a three way puller with removable jaws.invert jaws out as to hook to inside lip of cage assy.Tighten puller bolt to center of prop shaft.working by tapping hammer on puller bolt while an assistant slowly tightens .sometimes nothing works if they're growing together.I've found that an even three way pull is more effective.Good luck.Ps , hope you removed snap rings
