Stuck in Reverse

Hey guys,

I ran into a little problem on the weekend. I had my control in reverse and moved it to forward and the motor stayed in reverse. I can move the control freely but the motor stayed in reverse. When I moved it forward it throttled up and went in reverse faster. Is this most likely a cable issue, or could it be more serious?

Thanks.

Re: Stuck in Reverse

Welcome cottage!

Disconnect the control cable (shift) and work the controls while watching the end at the motor. It should work back and forth as you work the control from forward to reverse. If it don't, could be a busted cable or and issue in the control.

Let us know what you find......thanks.

Re: Stuck in Reverse

Thanks OBJ! I'll check that out.

I should add that I did a quick check like you suggested and I only noticed one cable moving. I believe it is the throttle cable. I'll take a closer look later and take the control box apart and check that as well.

Thanks again!

Re: Stuck in Reverse

The cable was the issue. I disconnected it at the motor and the cable did not move at all. I then pulled it at the motor and the cable was broken about 6" in. Thanks for the help!!

One more quick question. The lake I was in was extremely weedy. When I was stuck in reverse I ended up revving it higher and got a big pile of weeds wrapped around prop and the boat no longer moved at all - at the time I assumed this was because of all the weeds. Could this have damaged anything further? I can move the mechanical linkage at the motor quite easily and it goes in and out of gear nicely.

Thanks again for the help!
