Re: Stuck in Reverse

try pulling the starter rope and shift it at the same time......is it the prop or the foot that is moving?

Re: Stuck in Reverse

It is the foot that is moving i took the cap off the motor and can move the head of motor forward and backward so did the foot test and it is moving too. I have try to put it in neutral when motor is running but without sucess.

Re: Stuck in Reverse

How much movement? Many 9 1/2 have the common broken front motor mount will will allow the powerhead and lower unit to move. You shouldn`t have more than 1/2" or so of freeplay when you rock the powerhead back and forth. On your stuck gearcase check all your linkages in the cowl area to see if anything has come loose. If thats ok try dropping the lower unit, it will only drop about 1/2'' when the bolts are removed and look in the gap for the shift rod connector to see if that has came loose. Did you happen to change the oil in the LU and remove the phillips head screw ?

Re: Stuck in Reverse

no the motor was in my shead for over 2 years, so did not change oil yet, but will do later just try to start real quick and it did , so turn it off and check the prop and saw that i could shake it for about a inch or more for sure but at least 1" , but that is all i did to the motor. I will re-measure the distance it moves and see prety sure it is 1".
