replacing the risers and mans on a 1994 raw water cooled OMC VOLVO Ford 5.0 (carbed), and the mans are stuck the the block. There was studs used to hold them on. I just got nuts to pair up to use to take out the studs, but wondering if there's a trick to getting the mans to let go of the block... they are soaking in "liquid wrench" right now.
Heat? Leverage? Bueler?
Thanks all
-steve-

Be very carefull that you have all the studs
out. If you do the manifolds will fall
off.

There are 8 studs on each manifold. If you have all 8 studs out (not just the nuts off the studs) there is nothing holding the manifold on but the gasket.

I only counted 5, checked pretty good too...
they are all in between the exhast ports, except for 1, where there is one stud on each side..
Nuts are off, studs will come off next..

thanks all...

I knew there was 8, turns out there are 5 studs and 3 bolts on each side.
There are 2 "Fastners" on each cylinder, keep looking.

Just took mine off this fall. A crow bar did the trick for me, but just make sure that you are not tourquing down on the mating surface of the block.

And make sure you can get replacements before you trash em, some OMC manifolds are real hard to find!

K, You'all were right, there were 8 fasteners... 3 of them I couldn't see because they were sunken in where I can't get low enough. I looked at the headers on my 73 Bronco (same motor) and comfirmed there were 8. The mans came right off, and I found new everything at Larry's Lighthouse Marine. Totally nice guys in there, and pretty much the same price as the cheapest on-line place. Found moisture and lots of rust in the 2nd and 3rd cyl on stbd side manifold. Port side looked good. I think they were original mans. Tomorrow I get to bolt everything back on and go for a ride.
I also performed a compression check and all 8 cyl's were 125 psi or slightly higher, so it's not a head gasket. I was very happy to see those number and the consistency.
I'll report back with a post ride update.
thanks again

Sure glad you didn't start swinging away with a BFH, or you would now be looking for new heads to go with your manifolds.

Re: Stuck manifolds (OMC Volvo Ford 5.0)

Update
Well, got her all buttoned up and took for a ride... she's all good now, and put to bed. Sounds quieter with the new mans and risers... looks good, no leaks, but did run into one problem...
one of the accessory holes was drilled all the way thru so water shot out it when running. Crappy QC dept, I blame this on. So, I tapped the hole and installed a SS cap screw with some teflon tape.. holding tight now..
Winterized this past WE and was happy to see that the petcocks actually loosened nicely, and all the water drained out. Then, i just stuck the OD in a giant bucket of anttifreeze (pink stuff) untill it came out the transom (a few minutes later) while fogging it. changed the oil yet again and it looked good.
I feel it was a good winterization. should be good to go.
