Hello there,

I've been loaned a nice little Yamaha outboard to go with an Avon inflatable by a friend while he is away for a bit. The boat is fine, just need to redo a patch, and the engine runs lovely, and it's ideal for getting out onto the Helford with my little girl and pootling about crabbing and what-not. All good!

The one thing that is causing some grief, though, is the manual tilt lever, which is sticking. It doesn't allow the engine to drop, unless I lean around the back and stick my fingers up and lift the tab manually which I don't much fancy doing while on the water! Also, it doesn't flip back and lock the engine in its highest position when lifting.

Is it a case of getting the wd40 in there and wiggling it for ages, or does it need taking apart, cleaning and putting back together? And tips if it's the latter?

Photo attached for info. The lever in the middle should be right up. Actually, seems I can't upload on iPad. I'll upload it to a website and link it later.

Cheers
