Pivot pin stuck, penetrating oil worked as far as getting one pin out.... the other pivot pin I used a drift and a sledge hammer to push it outward enough to remove the drive. Pulling the motor to work on the transom, is it better to just put the transom shield in a press to get the pin out? Appears drive has never been removed since 1972....

Re: stuck pivot pin

Heat is always the key to success, when removing stuck bolts and pins.

Find a blow torch and heat the aluminium around the pin, and you can punch it out quite easily.

It must be a blow torch (with a flame) instead of an electric heat gun. The electric heat gun does not provide enough heat.

I wouldn't put the transom in a press, there is a risk that something breaks off.

careful heating aluminum. It goes from hot to liquid in an instant.
A press always work if the work is supported correctly.

Yes, aluminium is a weird material, suddenly it goes "blurp" and it is liquid.

I have used a blow torch (with propane gas only) several times, when removing stuck bolts in aluminium. The propane torch is not as hot as an oxy-acetylene welding torch.

Okay...I'll hit it lightly with my propane torch....maybe while it's on the press with a little pressure applied.
