stuck steering wheel

hi i have a Tahiti flat bottom with a 150 hp merc outboard with a teleflex helm and can not remove the steering wheel. thought about cutting it off. helm is about two years old. going to put in a tilt helm and do have a place to attach a puller Help !!!!!!

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,.... When the steerin' wheel nut loose, unscrewed so's it's flush with the top of the shaft,.....

Sit in the seat, with yer knees under the wheel, pushin' as hard as you can, pushin' the wheel off,.....

WACK the shaft/ nut with a BFHammer,....

The wheel should Pop loose of the taper on the shaft,.....

Ive had alot of luck with a Impact Gun. I tighten it and loosen it a few times, and it usually pops off.
