Stupid Human Tricks While Changing File Servers! <br /><br />

Last night (Oct 29) an unnamed iboats server administrator (Steve) changed out one of our file servers without looking to see if he had a recent backup. The result? We have unfortunately lost all posts and new forum member submissions after Oct 2. Yes we know its bad and we cannot say we are sorry enough. These posts cannot be retrieved. If you registered after Oct 2 you will need to register again. We have no excuses and hope you forgive us. Everyone makes mistakes. I bet Steve remembers to check for back-ups from now on.

Steve ! ! ! What were ya thinkin man??? Never, ever perform maintenance outside the maintenance window and without a known good backup and a recovery plan. Ya never know when disaster with strike. How long you been in the I/S business anyway? Hope your manager is the understanding sort.

One more thing Steve, you have to wash the mud and other stuff out of the treads on the tire of the Hummer with a toothbrush. You guys know the Hummer I am talking about.

Actually, y'all all have the story wrong.<br /><br />Steve was taking the server fishing. He was coming in too hot and decided to "throw the server out" to slow down his boat (it's a new brake technology).<br /><br />As he was throwing it, the rope got tangled around his ankle and he too went over the boat. At this time, he sank in the mud and the server was lost (including the backup server).<br /><br />It could have happened to anyone.....!

hey Admin5, I have a 350/700G tape backup you<br />can have cheap... it's an auotoloader, so you<br />don't have to worry about steve remembering to<br />change the data cartridge LOL

ok, we've already burnt Steve once. I think maybe like DHadley said, this might be a fictional character... or he might be one of our IS people.<br /><br />Either way, the best learning comes from experience... but i think somebody should call authorities and get a trace put on 'em... <br /><br /> experience is what you get just after you realize you need it

the way i see it theres three kinds of mistakes people make<br /><br />the stupid ones<br />the ones they learn from<br />the ones while boating<br /><br />theres no excuse for a stupid mistake, if you learn from it its called experience thats all, and who ever makes a mistake while boating? we all do but your not supposed to tell anyone.<br /><br />the question which category does steves fall into?
