1st caveat FIL and BIL and SIL all know everything

BIL went with FIL and wives went down to lake of the ozarks about a 3 hour drive one way. They boat and drink heavily all day long and pretty much get hammered.

FIL loads boat (21footer towed by a tahoe) back on trailer for 3 hour ride back home, after all day in the sun and drinking.

Takes the keys and tosses them to BIL who looks at them like what the F! Ive been drinking all day as well.

He said it was the longest drive home he ever had.

NO I dont go with them..

2nd

BIL and SIL buy said boat from FIL - 21foot cherokee, 350i I/O dual axle trailer...a Good size boat...SIL has a 2 door for explorer sport - they decide that the "Sport can handle it" SIL says the boat is 3500 and the sport can tow 3500 so it should be ok. I say "Huh"

Tow boat 20 miles to dock, explorer at extreme angle. Tow boat home 20 miles - transmission GONE!!

SIL realizes trailer weighs 1500 for a total of 5K, SIL takes burned out explorer into dealer to have tranny fixed under warranty.

NO I do not go out with them boating.

Re: stupid in law tricks

Before the wife and I had any kids, we took a co worker of mine and her husband to the lake.

The lake has a marina with a steep ramp. I had a Bayliner 1700, towing with an S10(2.8 and 4 speed).

We launch the boat, have a good day on the water. When retrieving the boat Coworkers hubby says he wants to pull the boat out. He felt sort of useless watching the unloading/loading evolution. I said ok and reminded him that the S10 shift pattern was different than his Nissan. He gives me this what kind of idiot do you think I am look.

He gets the truck, backs it in the right distance. I get the boat up to the trailer and hook it up. Ready to pull out. Engine revs, boat doesnt move. I said are you sure its in first gear. Coworker says of course he has it in first gear he isnt an idiot. Engine really revs, boat starts moving slowly, big cloud of smoke comes out from under the truck. Hubby turns off engine and puts on emergency brake.

I get out and wade to the truck remembering my Naval vocabulary. His wife was wrong..he was an idiot. Truck was in 2nd gear, all the nice smoke was my clutch burning.

Be real careful who you let drive your truck.

Had a buddy in the barracks once who loaned his truck to a couple of other animals.

They were just going to the local lake for a little fishing, how much trouble can ya get in doing that?

They went fishing all right. Fishing around in the ice chest for a beer.........

There was a hi-way construction close by.

It was about 0300 before they were drunk enough to get out on the Interstate hi-way that was under construction, and play 'chicken' with a parked bulldozer.

On the 2nd run at it, they didn't dodge.

God must love Marines. They got a little bark knocked of themselves, but other wise weren't hurt seriously. The (borrowed)truck however, was trashed.

When guests offer help, I reply with a $10. and send them to the nearest shop for coffee, donuts, anything to get them out of the way. :D

I learned that lesson, believe me. Fortunately the truck was a beater that I just used to haul the boat around with. It was easy to replace.

The most fun I had with that truck was showing up at Eagle Mountain lake at the marina and watch everyone freak out at the 'junker' using the private ramp. :)

I find that the easiest way to avoid danger/damage.
$10 is much cheaper than a new leg on your outdrive.
