Stupid mistake - motor oil in 2-cycle tank

The store was out of the brand of 2-cycle oil I normally use so I bought another. EARLY this morning, I filled the tank, and as I was replacing the cap on the empty gallon jug, I relized I'd bought and filled the tank with "Marine Motor Oil."

(expletive deleted)

Will it be enough to pull the tank and drain it completely (i.e. turn it upside down over a bucket until it stops dripping) or do I need to do anything more?

(Yes, I know how stupid this was)

Be sure to drain the lines also. You could rinse the tank with a cup of gas but it is dangeruos due to plastic static and the possibility of a spark.

Just drain it completely, let it drip and do the lines too. Okay come clean...did you run the motor with it? That could require more cleaning :(

Bob

Luckily I didn't even turn the motor over. The lines are full of 2-cycle oil.

The tank was a bear to get out, but it's drained and back in.

Thanks for the advice.

umm are we talking about a tank of premix or a oil injection system????

If its the former, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just drain the tank and fill it again. (with real premix. :)

If its a oil injection system.. I'd do as bob_vt suggested.. but again, its not THAT big a deal,, I knew a guy that ran his two stroke bike (oil injected) for several years on plain old motor oil.. I would never suggest it, but if you have emptied the tank as much as possible, then it shouldn't be much of an issue, just don't make a habbit of it.

regards

Frank

Oh heck , you haven't sinned beyond forgiveness. Some of the old timers used sae 30 with out any problems , except for smoking. Better what you did than to forget to put any oil in it. clean it and run it.

Don't forget to go through the oil prime procedure, which purges all air from the oil system. Also, put TW-C3 oil in the gas tank (50:1) until you're sure the oil injection is working properly.
