Stupid question of the day. 1 12 gallon or 2 6 gallons?

So I've been having issues running out of gas. I bought a bundle of fuel tanks. One is a 12 gallon tank the other is a small 6 gallon. I already have a 6 gallon. So my question is would it be better to run the big 12 gallon or 2 6 gallons. Space is limited and I'm somewhat worried about too much weight in the back of the boat.

Suppose that depends on what fits the boat better for the space you have. 12 gallons of gas weighs the same no matter how many tanks it's spread into.

Well I guess that the 12 gallon would fit better plus it would be less hoses to run. Thank you

Uh 6 of one and half a dozen of the other comes to mind...

12 gallons is 12 gallons.

Maybe you need to put the 12 in the back and find room for a 6 in the front....

If you run out w the 12 move the 6 to the back and head for the dock.

The fuel remaining in the 12 gal tank is all you have, which means you have nothing if it gets contaminated. Could happen with two 6s, but I'd opt for a lesser chance two tanks would leave me with nothing ... ;)

I'm actually in the same situation, I'm keeping the 2 6 gallon cans and selling the 12. Two reasons, the 6's are easier to carry and in my boat's layout it's easier to find room for the 2 6's. That, and if 1 is empty it's easy to take out a 6 gallon can and fill it up.

I run two 6's also, because when one tank runs near empty, I know its close to re-fuel time. No in dash fuel guages for above deck tanks. Plus like the other guy said, way easier to carry.

"Easy to carry" is the reason we always used 6s. We had to haul 'em from the house down to the lake by hand.

I use the 6 because of weight, it is the difference between carrying a little over 36 pounds and a little over 72 pounds, it is also a bit easier to balance things out with 2 cans as opposed to one large can.

Wow you guys all post good points and I think changed my mind to the 2 6 gallons. Especially when towing wake boarders. When I run one tank dry I know its time to start thinking about hitting the fill station. Once again this forum has helped me out. Thanks fellas. Happy boating

If you use two six gallon tanks, then when you run out of fuel, you know you need to go in because if it took six gallons to get where you are, you need six to back track as well. However, one twelve can be set up to have two outlets. Motorcycle tanks are set up that way. One at the half tank option and the other from the bottom. Then if you run out while on the way, you also know you only have enough to back track. It is up to you... JMHO

No I never run out of fuel in my car I have a gas gauge and a trip indicator. I have however neither on my boat.
