Stupid question- oil level in outdrive..

When I add the oil to the outdrive, do I adjust the fluid with the trim down and level, or up?

I know, I know, what an idiot. I have owned many motorcycles, some you check level, some on the jiffy. I just want to be sure on this thing

Except for the fact we dont know what kind of drive, how low it is on oil, where you want to add the oil,how much oil you need to add,
When we know those questions ,we can give you a better answer BEFORE you damage the drive.
