I have a 1981 2hp Evinrude that has high and low speed rich/lean knobs. Both of my knobs were missing so I ordered new ones and stupid me:( turned them while putting them on. Now the motor cuts out at full throttle but runs ok at low speed or if I put the throttle at less than full. I read the Top Secret file :confused:and I think that I turn the high speed knob all the way towards "lean" to seat it, then turn it 1 or 1 1/2 turns out and adj from there. Is that correct? Is the condition that I'm seeing more likely from a rich or lean setting?

Thanks!

Not a stupid question,,,but, the normal way for the high speed setting,is to be out in the lake ,or where ever, but in a body of waterand with good idle,,1 1/2 turn from seat like you wrote,,,in gear give some gas,, ,,,then clockwise slowly ,until sputter/spit,...then back out slowly, till smooth again, stop there ,,,,,you have to recheck your low speed needle valve now ,do the same thingbut in neutral/idle,1 1/2 out from seat, clockwise till spit, then back out till smooth and stop ,,,then recheck high speed ndle vlv,,,,eventually you should find the sweet spot,,,,,,,,,,,,hope this helps,if its lean at high speed it may burn your pistons up,scald the cylinders,,,too rich fouls plugs,,,to lean burns everything up ,,,id rather be rich any day,,,yeah, both ways would be good
