I have a 1991 Johnson 225 and it runs very good, (knock on wood) Most of the foam inside the cowling has come out and she is very loud. Is their any replacement foam I can put in the cowling without causing any over heating issues? And where can I buy it. Should I leave it onlone. If it's not broken don't fix it.
Happy Turkey Day
Greg

Re: Stupid question

That foam is available at Wal*Mart and other similar type stores. If there's no foam within the hood, it's broken.... fix it!

Re: Stupid question

I have seen extra dense foam surrounded by alum foil called sound deadening insulation in some marine parts catalogues.Overtons might be one of them.It is a kit that comes with the glue and all.Charlie

Re: Stupid question

Just make sure that what you put back in is not a heat insulator. Dont want heat trapped under the hood.

Guys
Thanks for the response, Dhadley make the point of traping the heat. This is my concern. Not sure what do buy. I'll check out Walmart and hopefully I don't do damage with over heating.

Re: Stupid question

You might check with a shop that installs stereos in cars. They make a sound deadener that is designed to go under the hood and heat, gas and oil don't bother it. I've used it several times and never saw any difference on the temp gauge.
Deadens sound alot better than the OEM stuff. It is self adheasive and easy to work with.

Russ In Texas

Re: Stupid question

Hello! The stuff that Skyguy is referring to is called Dynamat. You can pick it up at a car stereo installation place or at Crutchfield.com. It's made to soundproof cars from road noise. Would probably work just fine as it's made for under the hood of cars. Oh and by the way, there is NO such thing as a stupid question! By all means ask questions. That's what everyone is here for! :D
