stupid speedo plugged

Okay, boys, I have tried about everything to unplug the "built-in" speedo tube in my Alpha 1.
Small drill bit, wire from the bottom up, wire from the top down, forced air from the bottom up, forced air from the top (where it connects to the rubber tube) down, lots of penetrating oil, etc.

Any other tricks? There must be a small sliver of wood in there because it is holding water in the tube in the drive.

Do I need to crack the lower drive from the upper to get at this?

It just bothers me when stuff does not work.

Wood burns. I would think about hitting it with a little 'red spanner' (oxy). Just enough for the wood to charcoal up and fall out. Disconnect the rubber tube first though, ah. :D

Just a thought.

Chris............

Re: stupid speedo plugged

I have almost the same problem. The speedometer on my boat is not working. I unhooked the air tube from the meterend and then at the stern end of the boat. Took out an air compressor and try to blow it from one end but nothing happens on the other end. Did it from the other and still nothing happens, clog somewhere along in the air tube. I followed the air tube and check for nick and kingks but the tube looks good and flexible. My next course is to change out the air tube. IS it difficult to change out this air tube? any help and guidance is really appreciated. Thanks

An inexpensive GPS is miles better and more accurate than any speedo guage. ;)

Your fighting a losing battle. You'll get it unplugged and within a month it will be clogged again. Stop fighting it and relax, there aren't any speed limit signs on the lake so what difference does it make.

wvit----we have many lakes with speed limits in Illinois and Missouri----between 20 and 35 mph, depending on the lake.

Cobra----I use a hand held GPS for accurate speed measurement, but the in dash GPS speedo just out this year is about $400.

Achris---where do you get Red Spanner?
