Took daughter fishing last Sunday afternoon on San Diego Bay. She pulls up a sculpin (aka scorpionfish) just before we get ready to leave. I get out the pliers and am shaking the little sucker off the hook when WHAM...I get pricked in the left hand between the middle and ring fingers. Hand starts to feel like it's on fire and swells up like a balloon (stupid #1...I put gloves on board BECAUSE I GOT STUNG BY A RAY DOING THE SAME D**N THING 2 MONTHS AGO!).

Don't know how I got the boat loaded one-handed, but all the way home I can only think about the pain in my hand...I back into the driveway as I normally do, and CRACK...lower unit takes out two fence boards (stupid #2...I just installed a bolt-on hitch that extends about 8 inches further than the bumper hitch I was using before; forgot to compensate).

I have to cover the hole to prevent the dogs escaping, but it's getting dark and I don't want to disturb the neighbors nailing a piece of board over the hole...I know, I'll screw a bit of scrap plywood over the hole with my electric screwdriver. I'm fumbling with the screw with my swollen, burning hand and OOPS...the screwdriver tip slips off the screwhead and buries itself in my middle fingertip (stupid #3...fortunately, my hand hurt so much already I didn't even feel it!).

Fish poison wore off after about 3 hours. Screwdriver wound wasn't so bad actually, but it sure made me feel stupid, and extended my painful day another few hours.
