Stupid Yamaha Question

I have a 2008 Yamaha 50, 2 stroke with about 11 hours on it. When I run it in a body of water or in a tank the water squirts out of the pee hole just like it should. But when I put a pair of Yamaha muffs on the water intake nothing comes out of the pee hole when the engine is running. It makes it kinda hard to flush the motor after being in salt water because I have to drive 100 miles home to get it to a tank.

My dealer says nothing is wrong with the motor. Any thoughts on why this occurs, or how to remedy it?

Re: Stupid Yamaha Question

You are not getting a good flow of pressure up the lower unit. turn the hose up higher or re adjust the muffs. I have actually had this happen numerous times and a little adjustment of the muffs fixes. I have also taken the "pee stream" nozzle off and siphoned the water up priming it like when you're "borrowing gas" for the *****hole down the street.

Thanks, I have a 3/4 inch hose on it and lots of pressure when the water is turned full on, adjusting the muffs didn't do anything but get me wet. Are you suggesting that I put a little suction on the pee hose to get the water flowing? It may be worth a try.

I wouldn't worry about it. My F150 is the same. You probably have an auxillary water passage/pickup at the trim tab that bleeds away water while running on the muffs.

Thanks! The engine doesn't over heat so something like that must be going on. I have been boating and messing with motors for over 40 years now and no water at the pee hole ususally means a problem with the water pump or a plugged passage. These new fangled motors are starting to get beyond me.

yeah thats what i did. On the '08's they dont have a threaded hose on the port side of the powerhead cover? My ox66 does. dont even have to run the motor to flush it out. check that also

Re: Stupid Yamaha Question

I have a 50 2 stroke Yam and often don't get water out the pee hole when flushing on muffs. I push the hose against the intake and eventually it gets there but it makes me nervous until it does. Look for water coming out of other ports.
Assuming you have the muffs in the right place.
Islandbrah, you never run the motor on the hose fitting that you describe.

Sunday I was flushing mine and I knew the pee hole was clogged (low tide flounder fishing will do that) so I disconnected it and the water ran fine out the 1/4" hose, although it also took a while to get up there. Ran great for a while then I walked away, the muffs slipped a little and the alarm went off for a second or two until I got to the key.

On my Johnson the pee hole fitting broke so I just ran the hose out the hole and put a loose clamp on it to keep it out there; puts out a nice stream that way. Now I don't have to worry about it getting clogged and the mystery of whether it's a clog or a pump failure.
