My daughter and I took the Ranger out to the lake for a boat ride. Followed regular check list, plug in, brakers turned own, motor brace removed, you get the picture. Got back into vehicle to back down. Hit brakes and it did not slide off seemed strange. Did again, no luck. Pulled up ramp got a rolling start, in water and slammed brakes off it came. Darn hard to launch. Better check rollers. Oops better check transome straps, they snapped!!!

Oopsie! I've learned that most things arent meant to be forced. If its not happening, its not happening for a reason. Time to take a break and figure out the reason.

I've also learned that anytime I try to rush anything, it never works out the way planned. Luckily, all you messed up were two straps-- not a big deal! I've done much worst ;)

Make sure you didn't loosen up the eyes- they might leak a little.

LMAO. Reminds me of a few years back my father and I were unloading. We had the same checklist, only each had our own. I plugged the boat, pulled the rear straps off and put them away, put the key in the ignition and hopped on in the boat awaiting the bump off. Dad hops in the car throws her in reverse and tries to bump me off. NOPE. Denied. Not uncommon, he tries again. Snap! The rope on the wench broke. The boat is taking in water from comming off the trailer so hard. Dad doesnt know this whole time what happened. He takes the car up the ramp and parks comes back down. I'm riding around out in the lake with the plug pulled out trying to get the water out of the boat (this really works). I pull back to the bank to get him. He gets in the boat and asks why there's a rope hanging off the front. I tell him why and make fuss about how dumb he is. About the end of my throwing a guilt trip at him, he asks me, "So Smart ***, why the **** are we sinking?" Needless to say, he laid a good one on me too.

Re: Stupider boat stunts

just the other day a guy at the boat ramp was trying to launch a small pontoon..

Had it down in the water and had the engine roaring in reverse - him and his wife were shouting back and forth....

He gets shuts the engine down and goes back up front and realizes he had not unhooked the safety strap - but he cant now because the strap is tight

He tells the wife to back up some more so the boat will float - now the muffler is fully under water.

I offer to help and he says NO i got it and asks the wife to back up even deeper into the water the boat finally starts to float enough for him to unhook it. Why he did not pull it back out and wich it up to loosen it I do not know.

Well, a couple of trips back, I started pushing the boat off the trailer. Wierd...the outboard started lowering itself...what the...?

Oh, yes...the transom saver. I knew I forgot something. Pull forward a few feet, remove it, finish the launch. Less than a minute, but it must have amused the ramp crowd a little.
