So i been reading about sub-woofers on a boat... I usually hear the music about 20 feet from my boat (usually parked on a island) is it worth it for the to install a sub?

I will have 4 JL M770 speakers in there...

Only if you like to tick off your neighbors! I certainly don't want to hear what you like for music,I want to hear the peace and quiet of the outdoors, unless the packers are on the radio.......!

Hey man.

I see you're still struggling a bit here with your install. Don't over think it.

Look, the boats you hear on the water 9 out of 10 times have a wake tower set up with speakers and subs lifted substantially above the water line. I have the 10 inch sub in a sealed box under the lay out pad next to the engine compartment, I have FULL, RICH sound when I am cruising. When I park in a cove or what not it can be load, real loud, but over the holiday weekend when I swam out to the beach from my boat (to walk the dog lol) I couldn't hear it at all. IN the boat, it was rocking my face off. But once you got out away from it, not so much.

It's about what you want from it that matters. You will not have full range response and get all your music without a sub. Period.

That said you will not, and nearly can not, be the SUPER OBNOXIOUS boat without either a HUGE AMP and multiple speakers and subs unless you lift them up and mount them to a tower. Wide open water simply is not THAT acoustic and at least my boat is very solidly built and contains a great deal of the sound.

Now if you turn it WAY up and push your system you can tick anyone off. Especially if you 're hanging in a fishing cove or a well inclosed cove, you're gonna be louder than otherwise.
