guys I found an item even better than the trash bag at Advance Auto Store. It is a drain plug with a detachable hose. I extended the length of the hose on the one I got so I just run it out the drain plug hole in the rear of the boat. when you connect the hose to your drain plug it depresses a seal inside to allow the oil to drain out the hose. Drains a little slow but if you eat lunch or something it will be done when you get back. No fuss no muss in your boat at all. ;)

Makes it kinda hard to change the oil in the water.

As too changing in the water, Maybe if you run hard enough you can keep it draining out the tube till you run out of oil! Humm maybe not a good idea what do you think. I was just assumming you all do your maintenace in dry dock. sorry my bad.

I forget the name of the unit. Go to your local advance auto store. Look in the oil filter section you can't miss it. It has a bright orange tube in the clear plastic container.

It works great for me, on dry land that is.

i guess you have to be able to get to the bottom of the oil pan for that fram connector? i can't get to mine until the next time the engine is pulled....which i hope isn't soon.

i like the tempo oil extractor... http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...r&search_in_category=f&current_category=tempo

i have to say that boatfix's price is higher than wally world ($12 too).

For some info Mercury Blues, Mercruiser has been installing a hose kit on all their engines for the past few years.Yes it is nice on land, and it can kick butt in the water too. If you hook up your oil sucker to the line going to the drain plug hole you are gauranteed to get more of that dirty oil out than if you went through the dipstick tube. My preference for an easy oil change is a drill mounted pump made by jabsco. Costs around 25.00 and can be used for a multitude of tasks involving liquids.Engine oil, transfer case, front and rear differential.

I am running on a 1973 chapparal. I wish I could own a boat that new! I wouldn't be having all the grief I am having right now.

Thanks for the info. So as a concept for all us old boat owners then the arrangment I have would work well for them. That or yours.
