Submerged Yamaha 15hp four stroke - Oil light stays on

My outboard accidentally slipped off the back of my transom in a freshwater lake. It was running when it fell in...
I got it back in running order after changing the oil twice and making sure there was no water left anywhere. The only thing I didn't do is change the oil filter.

The problem is that the little red oil light at the front stays on all the time now. Why does it do that? What does the red light mean?

The oil light is still on!! even after 3 oil changes, a new oil filter and new plugs
The engine is running like clockwork but I don't want to use it until I sort out this oil light thing!

Someone please help!!

Not to worry, I sorted it out myself. I unscrewed the oil pressure switch (just beside the oil filter) and blew it out with compressed air, then sprayed WD40 into it and stuck a little wire in the hole to see if the switch moved......then blew all the wd40 out with air and reassembled....and now the light is off! I'm gonna get a new oil pressure switch anyway just in case this one is faulty.

It must be a fairly rare occurence since no one had any suggestions. Hopefully if it happens to someone else, this post might help them solve the problem.

Glad things worked out.

Don't feel like you were being ignored. The four strokes are still fairly new and are still kind of small in number, compared to two strokes.

We're all still at the base of the learning curve.

Thanks for the updates, good info.
