Ok, this may sound like a dumb question, but...... I have 16ft. Mirro Craft, w/35hp. Evinrude, console stearing, remotes. A lot of the smaller lakes around here have a 10 hp. limit, a kicker would be hard to use on this boat because of the platforms. So is it posible to pull the 35 Rude and install something like a 9 or 9.9hp, and be able to hook up the stearing and remotes? I know it'll take a long shaft, and probably be best to use an Evinrude or Johnson, but is it even feasible? Ideally I'd like to have a setup where I can switch motors depending on which lake we are heading to. so, is this doable, and if so which motor would be best to use? Thanks!

Rudi2 you could probably find a used boat and motor with the smaller motor on it and save yourself alot of trouble in switching motors out. Not to mention the labor it would put on a 9.9 trying to push a boat rated for a 35. IMHO I would say that the idea of swapping motors and reconnecting cables before each trip does not sound feasible or like much fun. Get another rig and enjoy the extra time on the water!! ;) :D :p

Taz

Yes I thought going the 2nd boat route might be better also, and that's probably what I'll end up doing. I've been checking prices on used boats, and found you can get boat, motor, trailer, and equipment for about the price of the motor alone. Just thought that if it wasn't to much hassle it'd be nice to be able to switch motors as needed. With a 2nd boat there would be license fees, extra trailer plates, insurance, maintenence, etc., etc. Oh well, just a thought. Thanks for the opinion!

No problem Rudi2, I totally understand where you are coming from. I own two boats, a bass boat and an offshore boat and the exspenses do add up. Good luck to ya whatever you decide!!!

TAZ

A bracket off the transom or something like that would sure make things easier.

Then you could hook up the 2 motors with a linking bar. But I'm not too familiar with your set up.

Good luck anyway.
