After quite a bit of tuning work on my Chrysler 125HP I finally water tested it today and with just me onboard and fairly calm water I got to 40.7mph using my iPhone GPS app.
Interestingly the tach was still only showing about 4200 rpm which make me wonder if the tach itself is reading low - maybe I'll connect up my timing light at some point which has rev counter built in.
The hole shot was good, no hesitation and I now have it idling smoothly and it doesn't load up - idle mixture is 1 1/4 turns bottom carb and 1 1/2 turns top carb - timing at 28 degrees static.
The main culprits were
1. Blocked pick up tube in the inboard tank
2. Weak fuel pump diaphragm
3. Missing bowl gasket on carb
4. Incorrect float height on top carb
5. Chafed wires from stator under flywheel
6. Spark plug boots not attached correctly to wires
In the end the stator, trigger, CD boxes and Coils all tested fine.
