About 4 years ago my uncle started to replace the water pump on a 78 10 horse johnson. Thanks to all your help I replaced the water pump and got it running. Thank you. But on the left side of the motor the water steam is coming out of the telltale and a hole above the cavitation plate. Is water coming out of the hole above the cavition plate normal or do I have a bad seal somewhere?

Thanks,

Rick

I'm guessing what your seeing coming out of the midsection above anti-ventilation plate is just cavity leakoff. Not to worry.Just insure the engine isn't running hot.

Not only is it normal as ob points out but can be a pain to free up if it ges clogged. I had to use an extra long drill bit to clean the cement like crud that had built up over the years in my 1975 9.9. It is a drain hole and really important if you live in a climate where the temp can drop below freezing.
