Such a thing as...."At Anchor" Flag ?

I've been looking around and have found divers flags, operator away flags and dragging an anchor flag but no "At Anchor" flag.

I would want to let other boaters know I'm not under power and just swinging in the current during the daytime.

I've looked through all the signal flags and found one with a blue background with a white diagonal "X" through it, letter "mike" in the code which supposedly means I am stopped.

Anyone have a better idea?

If you have divers down of course the divers flag, but you would not have to be anchored.

If anchored a red buoy and the divers flag. That is all that is required.

My pleasure, i am pleased, i was able to offer some small assistance.

Look in Chapmans.

Your stern light is called the "anchor light" for a reason. Of course nobody else out there is likely to understand that either.

Good job jaxnjil. Here's the quote directly from Chapmans:

"Although large Vessels must display certain shapes by day whenever they are at anchor or aground, this does not apply to small boats in most situations."
"Vessels under 7 meters (23') need to show no shape if they are NOT at anchor in or near a narrow channel or fairway, anchorage, or where vessels normally navigate. Vessels under 20 meters (65.7') need not display a shape when at anchor in a special anchorage area; and vessels less than 12 meters (39.4') are not required to shapes when aground or operating with limited manueverability, except for diving operations."
"In all other situations, vessels at anchor must hoist a ball-shaped daymark forward where it can be seen. This is the signal displayed by the large vessels whenever at anchor. Similarly, a vessel aground must display three ball shapes in a vertical line."

I wasn't aware of the "3 ball" requirement when aground. I gotta get some balls! :D

Anchored Vessels

AT NIGHT: All vessels at anchor must display anchor lights. If your vessel is less than 164 feet/50 meters in length, then its anchor light is an all-round white light visible where it can best be seen from all directions. (Figure 8)

DURING THE DAY: All vessels at anchor must display, forward where it can be best seen, a black ball shape. (See Figure 9)

i found this on this web sight. i was worong about the distance on the night anchor llight. it just says viasable from all directions.^^^^^^^^^^^^

If it's a designated anchorage area, than no light is required, but a red anchor ball is required.

Outside said area a light visible 180 degrees and at the highest point of the vessel is required. At night.

The light must be the highest point of the vessel. And white.

Exactly.

Just hang whatever you want from a mast and call it an anchor flag. It would be just as effective as the real thing if there were such a thing as an anchor flag. Nobody would know what either meant anyway.

Never heard of the red ball must be a nj thing. You should ALWAYS use your anchor light at night in an anchorage or not! To allow other boats entering the anchorage at night to see you.

what?? I have been boating for all of my life and have never heard of that!I would be intertersted in seeing were they say that its required. In my opinion anchor balls are more trouble then there worth.

In the link it states very clearly that in a designated area lights are not required.

Can't find anywhere that a red anchor ball is required. But i know i read it somewhere.

And i don't carry one, so i freely yield that point.

So ab you don't have to get a set of balls.

I was at anchor last week and NO ONE displayed a darn thing. I am still going to get a BLACK anchor ball.

The black ball is common here but as posted I doubt hardly anyone knows what it means. The only red buoys used here are anchor buoys used when you need to release an anchor quick for a tarpon fight.
