Sucked up some sand!!

Last weekend i was at the lake and the shore was real sandy, I believe I got some sand sucked up. The water flowing out isn't nearly as much as normal.

Is there a way to get the sand out without taking the lower unit apart (I tried using the muffs to see if that would force enough water through but...), if not what should I do once I have the lower unit off, I've never had this problem before so any help would be appreciated?

If it makes a difference its an 88 125 force.

I would check the water pump and Impeller if you are going to drop the lower unit. Might as well get your kit ordered ahead of time.

my 2 cents.

I just put them in 20 boating hours ago, do you think the sand would have damaged them?

Maybe, maybe not, you could have something larger than sand in there like small pebbles who knows?, I know it is a pain but it certainly would not hurt to just take a look since the damage could be more costly to you if you attempt to just force it out with water.

I hope this helps and maybe other will chime in also.
