I have been fighting my way through some shoulder and chest pain for about 7 weeks now, and yes their running tests and no real results yet, I guessing its a cracked rib or pulled mussels but it sure is healing slow. The drugs I am on keep making me sleep, but what else can you do, and I am just venting a bit.

Re: sucks getting old

I had pain in my collar bone and shoulder.
It took the doctors over a month to figure it out... I had a blocked artery to my heart.
I was having engina attacks, at 35 years of age.

I hope they don't overlook anything.

Re: sucks getting old

Well, both of my parents told me that the idea that getting older and older sooner or later is not as good as the alternative.

He was 84 when he told me it was time to go; that being that old was a lot worse than dying.

She was 89 when she said, "It is time for me to join all my dear friends who have gone before me."

Both had strong faith in a better afterlife and both lived their last few years in constant pain and confusion.

Yes, Hawker, getting old hurts. There may come a time, whatever you believe about what comes next (if anything), that you might prefer to move on.

I am not yet 80, but the thought does occur to me now and then.

I know I've mentioned it before, but, I'll mention it again. May father in-law told me a few years ago, "the only thing golden about the golden years is my urine"....... It was worth a chuckle........

I'm 33, and yeah I sure folks here will roll their eyes, but I'm feeling the same way. Lots of back pain and I can't do a lot of things I use to be able to. Guess it's just going to get worse with time. Woohoo :|

lol!!!
Broke three ribs a couple years ago in a horseback riding accident... took 6 months to heal and was still hurting on and off for the next year. Took the ER three xrays to figure out they were broken. Feel better!

I was having those same symptoms, plus feeling pretty crappy. Doc suggested a stress test, results was a blocked artery.

Went in for an angiogram and they saw the blocked artery on the screen, they touched it with the stint and it opened by itself. Seems I have spastic angina and that artery thinks it's a butthole and closes whenever it want, mainly under stress. No stint and I just take one little pill a day to control it.

At age 37 I had 4 stints installed in the back of my heart. At 39 I blew out a lung.

Don't have to worry about retirement or "Golden Years". I'll never live that long

Re: sucks getting old

I realized when I turned 60 that there were more and more things I just could not do as when I was 40. It is important to focus on the many many things you can do and savor them as this number decreases. Are my hands and shoulders worn out? Yes but not so much that I cant do mechanic work and pull the starter rope on my boat, I just do it a little slower.

Well so far the tests arnt showing any thing and X rays ruled out a broken rib, Am going in later this week for a cat scan. But the pills are helping. I just hate fuzzy headed the effect of pain killers. And same thing here rivermouse, I can still do a bit of work it just takes 3 times as long.

Re: sucks getting old

I've been fighting 12 years now with what was 2 herniated discs, now three, along with arthritis in those areas. And if that isn't bad enough the older I get the more my bones creek and groan. LOL. I get up in the morning and my joints seem to crack more than before. Getting old really does suck. But I'm fighting it all the way. And then I see some poor sole in a wheel chair all crippled up or worse, then I realize how lucky I am. :D

I hope all works out for you. Good luck.

Hope you feel better soon. At 55 i find that there are a few things that i'm not as quick at. My favorite saying at work has become "The older i get the better i used to be".

Re: sucks getting old

Well I went in Friday for a cat scan and it like the X rays were clear, and in may ways thats a huge relief , but doesn't help the present problems, so now the DR is thinking I have some torn mussels. And in my case I got more or less forced into retirment due to several health problems , and yea some days it takes a long time to actualy get my feet on the floor.
