Ok well I purchased new speakers and was thinking of intstalling a JBL MA6004 4-Channel Full-Range Marine Amplifier that max draw I think is 40amps.
I currently have a dual purpose battery by itself and was thinking of adding another battery to supply the amp. My question is should I do a switch or a battery combiner. I don't know much about they things or how to setup or use. I have a 2011 yamaha four stroke 115, think the alternator puts out 25 amps. If this is going to strain my alt I'm going to pass on changing anything up. Just looking for ideas and if it is worth it thxs all

Re: Suggestion for my setup? New amp and battery

First, I would recommend the MB Quart NAU460 amp over that JBL amp for the main reason that it's a fraction of the price yet all the output and quality if not more/better. http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-NAU4..._1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1337628679&sr=1-1

Second, you will not need a second battery with adding just one amp. Modern amps are very efficient, you will most likely barely notice a difference. The most important thing is to make sure that your current battery is the biggest capacity marine deep cycle that you can fit. I would suggest a series 29 WalMart unit as they're around $70 and have great capacity. Put a charger on it when you get back to the house if you have any concerns.

If you're definitely set on adding a second battery, you would need a marine ACR such as this: http://www.iboats.com/Blue-Sea-Syst...5853583--session_id.768031080--view_id.729809

EDIT: 6-7 hours play time with zero running or recharging. Hm. If you're seriously going for that kind of longevity, you may indeed be in for a second battery.
