Suggestions for deck covering?

Hello,

I am replacing deck in the back of my Blue Fin 18' aluminum runabout. The old covering is being pulled up as it is really worn out and I'm looking for suggestions on what to replace it with. The original covering/flooring was thin, textured, and "doesn't look like carpet" Ideally I would like to replace this with something similar but I'm not sure exactly what it is and all my searches bring up are carpets.

Does anyone know what this stuff is and where to find it? I'd also be interested in hearing what others are using.

Thanks,

Erik

Ayuh,...

I believe the trade name for it is Nautlex, or something like that....

Re: Suggestions for deck covering?

There are two popular vinyl coverings, one is MariDeck, the other is Nautolex.

MariDeck is the lower priced product, but from samples I got, they seem to be similar, except for the Deco Dot vinyl, that is unique. (Deco Dot is a Nautolex product)

Thinking about using the Deco Dot in my own boat, or just applying another layer of CSM, 8oz, then gel coat.

Thanks,

MariDeck looks close to what I tore out, the Deco Dots also look interesting. Thanks for the help.

If you are not in a hurry, you can get samples free from Overtons for the MariDeck. I was surprised at how deep the embossed grain patterns are. And the Deco Dot dots are much smaller than I thought from the photos. The raised dots are only about 1/16" wide/high. Enough to give a good grip in bare feet, but not large enough to feel lumpy. Its also a lighter gauge vinyl than I expected. I thought the dots were 1/4 or 3/8" wide from the photos. Thats why it does pay to get the samples.

I'm doing the deck of my 18' Starcraft with the Standard Marine Vinyl that Cabela's sells. There were 22 outstanding reviews on the product and the price was right. Originally, the rail caps were carpeted on this boat. I'm going to use the vinyl there also. I ordered 21 feet of the silver gray to go with the gray premium carpet that I also bought from Cabela's. The carpet it really nice and at least the same quality as Redrum at half the price.

Anyone have pix of the vinyl products put down on a deck after a refit/rebuild? I'm gonna start sprucing up the inside of the Texas Maid this spring...right now the deck is painted ply.

I will next month. My 18' tinny is going in for surgery tomorrow to get the gash in the bow repaired. When it get's out of the hospital, I'll be laying in the deck and almost immediately thereafter the vinyl will go down. I'll document the process for you.
