I need a near-shore project boat max 10 miles offshore, rest in-shore. What is a good solid hull brand/model in the 19ft - 21 ft. range that can handle up to a 150 HP?

What are your suggestions to keep an eye out for to start a good project hull with?

For a project the best you'll be able to do is find one in the style you like with a good motor and then build it to the strength/durability that you desire.

Good motor, good trailer, rotten interior and cheap.

I'm guessing with my budget I'll be looking for something in the late 80's to 90's age. The Makos seem pretty decent and plentiful? Is that a good hull? What are a few other decent hulls from that time?

Makos are decent hulls, but they tend to ride a bit wet, you will run across the normal deck/stringer/transom needs. I would look for the late 80's-90's 211 series. The earlier ones have a low transom cutout, and just a teak board to keep the sea from you. theres a decent array of Mako restos on the net.

19 foot is kinda a minimum that far offshore, imo, though ive done it many times in a 70's 19' winner runabout... I was young and foolish, depending on your home port, it can get very hair some days. Most quality 80's-90's center consoles in the 20-22 foot range should run at 35mph topped out nwith a 150...a bit bigger motor would be better.
