The boat will live in Mexico so no winterizing but summerizing will be needed{ temp gets to 110 and humidity gets to 95++ everything is the shop rust} I want to thank anyone for any help, this is a great site.

Re: summerizing , breaking in, and oil

Hi,

I have a Yamaha F115 4-stroke, 2003.
No problem so far.
It is mentioned in the Owners manual how the breake in is done.
Owners manual is available online (as PDF) at Yamaha US website: Link

One difference between Yamaha F115 2003 and 2005 is that the former is CARB 2-Stars and the later is 3-Stars rated (so 3-Stars is "cleaner" för the environment).

On both outboards it is good if they have documented service records (stamps in service book).
The 2003 should have a new impeller (waterpump) now since it is wise to change impeller about in 3 year interval (normally).
The timing belt does not need replacement until every 5 years or 1000 hours whichever occur first.

Make sure they run close to 6000 rpm at full throttle since it will usually perform best then.

I got 5 years warranty on mine (2 factory and 3 Y.E.S.).

If You plan to do the maintenance yourself I suggest You in addition to the Owners manual also get the Service manual (can be ordered on Yamaha US website for $60).
Since the F115 is EFI it has some electronic boxes and You can not do much about them if they should fail. It is probably wise to have it serviced sometimes at a dealer so it can be connected to a computer to get it tuned up as best as possible and hopefulle catch any problem before they occur.

One thing that may be a thing you need to remember to do regularly is to grease the top of the trim pistons (will be some noice otherwise when trim up/down). It is a maintenance thing you should do regularly. You will understand (hear it ) if you buy the outboard.

Some picture of my boat and outboard:
