Hi there I have a 2009 Bayliner 185.

The hinge mounted to the sundeck/engine cover came off recently. There are 2 shocks/hinges. 1 is completely off, while the other is barely holding on.

Where the hinges are mounted the sundeck is covered in some sort of mesh vinyl that ive yet to pull back and look. But im guessing the wood is rotting.

The bolts dont even screw in anymore.

Im looking to sell the boat next year so I dont want to put a lot of money in it. But im also looking for a repair that will hold up.

Any ideas?

Exactly what Scott said. Not that huge of a project. With the help of the wife, we have done a few of these. I used exterior grade plywood, and I think T-nuts to bolt the struts and hinges back always better than original. We usually have to redo the vinyl also. Dave-R

Sounds easy enough I suppose. I will make it a winter project. Should the plywood be coated in anything? Also what kind of material is on the interior? Same material you'll find under the bow seats or bench seats.

unless you plan to do the same job soon again: yes! The best would be to use Epoxy as it is vapor-/waterproof but the lesser Polyester will do a fine job there too and is cheaper. Most likely you can re-use the padding which is already there.
