I'm considering the purchase of an ATV that was sunk and spent a couple of hours under the ice. I would like some opinions? If it's worth while project or problems. I would also have to get the atv running again. This would include buying a new battery and changing all the fluids. Anything else??? I know some of you have experience with boats that have met the bottom.
Thanks
Kevin

Re: sunk atv

IF It was put into a Heated Garage Soon after it came out of the water....
Go for It....
If it's been in the Freezeing Cold, You Might want to Pass...... It'll make a Frozen Boat Engine Block look like a Good Thing.....
I've dropped Back-hoes,+ Dozers through the Ice... The Only Way to Save the piece is to get it on the trailer, And Into a Heated Shop... Then Drain EVERYTHING...... Even the "Things" that Don't Have Drains..... Your ATV would be the Same....
Amazingly, the Battery will Probably Survive with a slow charge.....
Good Luck...

It might be worth it, or maybe not.
It is now only valued at about 20% of blue book.

Forget it if it was left outside after it filled with water, and it froze inside the engine.

I know that if a car goes under water, the insurance company will total it about 90% of the time.

Water was still in the engine until the salvage company picked it up and got it back to the shop. I'm probably going to pass.

Km2...If you dont go this one I know a website where they sell insurance buyback's. I keep an eye on it for something to possably rebuild. But they typically bring more than I'm willing to spend...but I'm patient one day one will come across that suits me to a tee. Also if you pass I may be interested.

Re: sunk atv

Shouldn't be stepping on company toes considering there wrecked ATV's...I'd be glad to www.crashedtoys.com But most of them are here in Minnesota. Also if you go to the online auction link rather than the inventory link the rigs are easier to get a feel for. :)

Re: sunk atv

neumanns,
I'm familar with the site, I have been there it's only a couple of miles from my office. I agree most ATV's go for more than I'm willing to pay and more than they are worth.
Kevin
