You still haven't found a motor, 4.0L? I thought you had a nice 1957 in hand.

I only watch eBay for parts (still looking for some Javelin chrome), but the supply of motors up here is still going strong even though we have a foot of snow on the ground.

Ya that one fell threw. It was around 7 hours away from me. Way in upstate ny. He wouldn't ship.:( But I have a nice one with a tank for 300 and there is a 10 hp evinrude on ebay for cheap thats in ny. It's tempting. Guy says it has good compression. It's missing the shifter and hasn't run in awhile but don't care as long as it has compression. What do you guys think?

I come across alot of old motors and most are priced reasonably. But they usually end up being so far away that when you figure in the gas and travel time, they are not worth it to me.

The Evinrude would have to be real cheap when you consider shipping costs. How much $$$? $150 for the tune-up parts + shipping + cost of motor + cost of replacement parts = lots of cash. The $300 motor might be a better deal if its local.

Tashasdaddy,
I like to watch ebay and have noticed there are very few old 5.5-25hp motors too, lately. The ones that are on there aren't that great. I thought it was because it was late in winter time since I've only been looking since last March or so. usually, there's some really nice looking motors for around 400-500 bucks that are original and appear to have low hours......I don't buy any that high but like to look at 'em. I was wondering the same thing you were. Maybe it'll pick back up when it gets warmer---I hear that's when they get the best prices and therefore everyone wants to sell then.

yes, the ebay supply of decent motors has dried up. i've been looking for a 50 - 75 for months. at a decent price. with the economy the way it is, i would think some would be selling to raise cash. maybe they are holding on to them rather than upgrading.
