I'm sure there has to be a good reason...and Im imagine that one or more of you will be quick to tell me what it is!

The wires from my stator on my Merc 850 are toast. The insulation is shot...just flakes off when touched. I've gone ahead and spliced into the wires right at the stator...as close as I can get.

But; why don't they make the stator with screw terminal connectors (like the coils) instead of having the wires molded in like this? It would make re-wiring a breeze.

As it is now...even with the best splices that I could do...I feel that at some point in the near future I'm going to be shelling ouit for a new stator...only because I can't get good electrical connections anymore.

Thanks for reading, Chuck

Thats a common problem with the mid 70 and early 80 engines, I've wasted a lot of time over the years trying to find a easy fix and there isn't one other than replacing the stator, I guess they didn't think they would last this long
