Surf Fishing Question

Going to be doing a little surf fishing in the Florida Panhandle area. I'm not fishing for anything in particular (honestly just killing time while I'm at the beach). But when I went to the store, they only had Black color leaders. Will these be OK? I had used silver in the past and they seem to be OK.

I don't know much when it comes to surf fishing so I wasn't sure if using the black in color leaders was a big no no.

Re: Surf Fishing Question

No leader even required for most surf fishing, especially if you're using a double hook bottom weight setup that's standard issue for lots of folks. Panhandle usually doesn't have much wave action, so not much weight required to hold your rig in place. Good Luck!

Re: Surf Fishing Question

Only need wire leaders if fishing for toothy critters like barracuda. If using expensive lures I would also use a wire leader.Take along extra hooks.

Where I live we only use black wire leaders, swivels.

Re: Surf Fishing Question

My wife and I love to surffish,we use a simple homemade rig. 30# leader about 4 foot long a swivel at top two swivels spaced about 18 inches apart and asnap swivel at the bottom for the weight use lightest weight you can.attach double snelled hooks to the swivels spaced 18 inches apart, Ilike long shank hooks, but the smaller size tends to put more fish in the cooler. we fish at carolina beach with this rig and out fish everybody,we often are told that we are the only ones seen catching fish, gotta love it!!!
