Re: surface gap ?? plugs??

My manual says they are typically used in high performance applications to reduce incedence of fouling

They're also used in engines that operate a lot at low rpm's, like trolling.
Same deal, they don't foul as quick as regular gapped plugs.

c/6

Hooty

I never had much luck with them in my 120 Johnson. 821 Champions work for me.

sloop my omc manual gives an optional fixed gap plug for sustained high speed operation but does'nt specify any for trolling.

Check with NAPA or some other auto supply and see if they can cross reference the plug you're using now to a surface gap plug.

c/6

Hooty

Re: surface gap ?? plugs??

I didn't keep the surface gaps either. Regular champions went back in and stayed after the first change. There was no difference in performance, slow or fast. The only difference was the surface gaps cost double or something. That was in 1980 on a 140 Johnson.

Aren't the surface gaps meant to work only with high power CD ignitions?
