I want to add stringers to a hard deck I built out of 1/2 inch plywood. Since the deck is in two sections and the edges are covered with pipe insulation, I have in mind to simply place two pieces of galvanized steel bar on top about 1 1/5 inches in from the edge. They would be bolted down probably with thumb screws or wing screws into T nuts on each section. (I tried using aluminimum "J bar" flashing but it bends too easily). I think the length of the stringers would be 48 inches by 1 1/2 inches wide. This way the deck can be assembled on the dock (or in the boat after placing the deck for that matter).
Thanks to all for all the great ideas about deck construction.
