I've seen several threads before, mostly about the safety of it all...

What I am looking for now is people that have surfed behind a regular bow rider, possible weighted down with ballasts or not. I wanna know how was the surfing, was it possible to go ropeless, as the boat stable enough.

Let me know about your experiences!

Tks

Re: Surfing behind a I/O

Thats what I figured. My boat has potential of adding 800lbs of ballast, but I have never filled them to the top. I have a bow ballast, a center (ski locker) ballast and 2 corner ballasts in the back. I have also added a cage that completely covers the prop, it can be removed in 2 minutes, yes it causes drag but surfing speed is 9mph (approx), so I think I have covered all basis, so I guess i will search the world wide web a little more, ahaha, oh yeah, and I have added a 36 inch swim platform.

tks

pull the plug, and you have a million pounds of ballast.

ummm, why are u getting involved bowman, as I can see in ur sig, U dont even drive or own an I/O, enjoy ur 16 footer, leave this part of the forum alone. For those who are wondering, yes, we could go out and buy a moomba, or supra or mastercraft, the thing is, we love the river near our place, but its bow rider friendly, some spots are 3 feet deep, so we trim up, a V drive would not, and never lasted! are we bad people for taking our I/O to the limit....nope, so Bowman, be a man, mind ur business

you should never wake surf behind any i/o in is to dangerus i changed to a tige 20v this year to start surfing. if u fall foward on a i/o u fall in to the prop it is illegal in a lot of lakes in a i/o on wakeworld ther is a pic of a man who was surfing behind a i/o he lost most of his hand. when we started to surf this year it was great but sore on legs

Do you have any pictures of this cage or the manufacture's website?

Re: Surfing behind a I/O

I personally would never surf behind an I/O. But Ill watch you do it all day.

As stated, as with any boat, you need weight on one side of the boat, and everyone loaded to that side as well.

Different strokes for different folks. If you have some sort of cage and a platform your safety rating went up like 2% :D

if you have a long board, you can surf the waves behind the boat. 10-15' back. their is a guy on my lake that does it. ive seen videos online of them doing that back in the day in cali. will try to find them and post them up

Re: Surfing behind a I/O

Cool Thanks!

I will likely play it safe to start off and see. My wife doesn't want to change our boat right away so I will keep the I/O at least another season unless I come across a great deal on a new V-Drive.

So I am even thinking of buying the wakesurf and riding 10 feet behind the boat, even if I have to keep a hand on the rope to keep up. Just want to get the feeling of carving a wave, I only get to surf once a year on my annual trip to Mexico so wouldn't mind "pretend surf" a few times a week!!

Thanks to those taking time to post inteligent opinions and concers, for the others... oh well...

Hey smitty it aint 100% safe to surf behind any boat.Inboard either c/m poisoning/hitting boat etc... dont pretend your boat is foolproof. There have been more documentd cases of c/m poisoning than injuries behind i/o.At least c/o poisoning isnt such a threat behind i/o ha ha
