Is it me or are these things awesome?

I've used mine to:

Clean up splintery edges of plywood.

Bevel my plywood edges for gluing since I don't have a router.

Knock off hard drips of epoxy.

Plane down seams to make them flush.

Contour my trailer bunks.

Shave off some uncured resin that I must have measured wrong.

One of the most useful hand tools I have.

Surform (surface forming)

Here's mine...

Close-up of blade.

** I distinguish this from a rasp because shavings pass through it like a cheese grater where a rasp is solid.

A very good tool to have around, I have seen them also used on bondo when doing car body work. I use them all the time when installing drywall, I use the smaller one for drywall its about the size of a small block plane. Plus you can replace the blade when it gets dull. Happy surforming......

Evidently, only us old fogies, that used to have to fix our own dented vehicles know that tool. What, people actually sand the rough stuff off, before going to a sander? That would be a pain.

Re: Surform tool

it exists, but it is solid. Look at bits for die grinders.

I picked up an old Sureform tool at a garage sale...I forgot I had it...AND I'm doing drywall right now!!!! d-0h! still in the original box with a couple of extra blades!

Yep, have two of them. One of the little block plane size, and one that's about 10 inches long. Great for forming most any soft to medium hardness material. I use them for drywall (well, used too, don't do drywall much anymore) or foam board.

They do, called a "drum rasp". It has holes so stuff passes through it, not sure that works quite the same was as the Surform though.

Re: Surform tool

I was thinking of one at a 90 degree angle to the drill, like a sanding disc. About 7" in diameter; so many times it would have made life easier.
