Surge Brake safety cable question

I have a '05 Four Winns trailer with surge brakes. When I look at the safety cable that connects to the surge brake coupler, it's definitely frayed.

I'm assuming this is replaceable. Anyone have a source for a new cable? Any other recommendations while I'm in there doing that work?

Trailer is in almost like new shape otherwise - needs bunks re-carpeted (spring project), and new tires (rims are fine).

Four Winns has a parts department in Cadilac(sp) MI. Any Four Winns dealer should be able to get it too. Four Winns makes their own trailers in MI, so thats where I would look. They of course buy the breaks and axels but still,,,,,,,,

Ayuh,... It's just a plain ole steel cable,...

'bout any hardware store should have the cable, 'n crimp furrels to make yer replacement piece....

If ya don't have a crimping tool,.. a pair of BFHammers will do....

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll have to check Homeless Depot the next time I'm in there for the cable and crimps.

I like FourWinns but they won't sell parts to the public - I've asked as I have some rubrail that needs attention. So I have to go through a dealer and that means markup.

Rubrails are also generic items for the most part. Every marine dealer has catalogs for a couple of regional marine supply companies where they can order rubrails and the vinyl inserts from in 20' sections.

For specialized hardware items, I usually go to an independent like TruValue Hardware. The big nationals sell fast moving items.

Re: Surge Brake safety cable question

Thanks for the suggestion but the other two trailer safety cables are in excellent shape so if I used chain here it would be a mismatch. Visually, it wouldn't look right and would bug the ever living snot out of me. Personal preference but it is a good idea.

More then one safety cable? This must be the safest trailer ever made.
