Going in for a fix on the shoulder Friday. Tore it up pretty good. :eek:The Rotator, Bicept and Superspinatus. (not sure about the spelling but the ouch factor is spot on:confused:). They tell me I will be out of action for about 6 months. It's the right shoulder and I am right handed. Don't know if I can fish one handed but you can bet I can open a beer can:D. The wife is pretty good, no, she is real good at launching and retrieving the boat alone and can back up the rig with no problem. I may be down but I will be out. Oh well, the bright side is I get to spend time with the grandkids and browse the threads here at iboats.

Re: Surgery

I hope it goes well for you. I have had my right one done twice so far and am now due for another tuneup. Make sure you follow the physical therapy regimen, it helps a lot.

My right arm looked like a little twig for a while, but it came back after a lot of strength training with the therapy.

Good luck to you I had my Right shoulder done 4 times, 2 for rotator cuff and the first time I was so bad and loose they dissected my shoulder and reattached everything 15 degrees in from where it was. Both times after surgery I ended up with impingement that required arthroscopic surgery to correct. I was out 14 months the first time and 10 years later I was out 10 months, I had sleep in a chair for the 1st 4 weeks after surgery It's TOO painful to try getting up every chest muscle feels like it's attached to you incision. I was able to fish 5 weeks after surgery we went to Lake Ontario salmon fishing using a fighting belt, my buddies would take the pole from the downriggers put it in the pocket, hang on with the left and slide you hand from the sling to reel......Take care it's a long haul........Ted

Start training now, today.

Put the mouse on the left side of the desk and practice.

Next, go take a poop, and see if you can wipe left-handed.
If not, might have to arrange for cute young thing to do home health care, you know, sponge baths and such.

Seriously, good luck.

See you here.

Roscoe- That is actually really good advice. I remember after surgery #1 when I went to brush my teeth left handed ( not my dominant side ) for the first time and I ended up brushing my face more than my teeth.

Roscoe, you ain't right. :D LOL

Hangeye, good luck with your surgery. I know you must be in pain right now. Here's hoping you have a speedy and not too painful recovery.

LOL - leave it to a Supreme Mariner to be havin' advice for everything!

Been there, done that .... twice (both shoulders, different times). The second time around was a skiing accident and I had a "suit job" at the time. One of the worst things for me, was tying my tie. Ever try to find a decent looking "clipon?" ;)

Re: Surgery

Good luck, but I have to admit, roscoe has got me to thinking about getting mine done. Not really :D
Again, hope everything goes smooth and do what the Dr. says.

Re: Surgery

Been there ....done that...... and have the scars! Good luck with the surgery and WHEN they let you start working the arm to repair the muscle....DO IT! I used to use a surgical tube wrapped around the passenger seat in my Blazer to work out my right arm as I drove.

Roscoe is right......switch the mouse hand and get a cute home health nurse :)

Hope you have a speedy recovery. Sweat pants come in real handy for one arm being out of commission. :D

Re: Surgery

Well, the Doc went in and gave it a good going over. Said he got it all shined up real nice. Now the fun begins. The left handed butt thing is a bit of a chore, thank God the shower is real handy.

Sweat pants are in use.

Getting out of the recliner with alot of help from the wife. Bless her.

Can't enjoy the free time YET.

Doc says "take it easy". Got the wife running. Bless her.

Switched the mouse to the left hand. Wife will NOT let me get a cute home health care nurse. Damn her.

I don't wear ties except for weddings and such.

Got me a new cane pole, 10 footer. Now if the wife will help me out of the recliner. Bless her.

This is my 3rd go around with the shoulder thing. (twice on the left one)
The wife is getting pretty savy to what I can and can't do so the begging has to be timed just right or I get no response. Damn her.

Thanks to all of you for the good wishes and support. It is very much appreciated.

Well, time for some more meds and a nap. Thanks again.

Good luck with the recovery process. Sounds like you know what to expect. Don't go after large fish :D
