Picked up our new (to us) boat today and i was very worried after reading about towing with our liberty. Was pretty much ready to stop at the car dealership with the boat on the way home, however to my surprise it towed well.

Got a 89 Four winns Sundowner with a 5.0 HO, nada puts the weight at 3200 plus a trailer so we are right near our weight limit (5000 with the tow package) I know but going down the highway no problems, no jerking or wagging. The brakes worked well on the car along with the surge on the trailer. At the launch backed in fine, pulled it out without even thinking about it.

Got 13 mpg for a 2 hour drive so not great but could be worse. Anyway just some feedback for some people with liberty's out there.

Congrats! The Liberty name catch a lot of flak, because the first ones had issues. The body style of yours is a tough and capable little SUV. Enjoy your Jeep and boat!

BTW, Did you set out to find a boat that matches your Jeep or was it just luck? LOL

I think it was luck that it matches the jeep but out of a line up this was the one the wife picked so i think she probably did that on purpose!

So they have gotten better I'm assuming? I'm looking at small SUV's now for the wife's car, I'd really like a later model liberty if they have improved.

Inlaws and some friends had earlier liberties (3 total), and I think there were 7 or 8 transmissions between those 3, none of them owned the vehicle past 50k miles! They were quite honestly the worst vehicles I have ever seen for transmission reliably, EVER! (none of those towed even, the transmissions would go out on their own in various interesting ways. Some wouldn't go into one gear, some wouldn't stay into park randomly (makes parking on a hill fun!), others would just lock up the trans entirely and nothing would happen.)

The Liberty is a great little truck - my 2006 ran to 170,000 miles, towed all kinds of things and I just sold it for $1,800. My 2012 tows my 18' Stingray with no problems whatsoever. They come with a factory trans cooler which is great plus. The seats are very comfortable, especially for those of us with bad backs.
