Suspected gas feed problem on a...

1964 Evinrude 5.5 HP.<br /><br />First thing: Motor only runs with choke on, and runs for about 5-10 seconds without the choke on.<br /><br />Second thing: Glass gas bulb only stays about 1/4 or less full.<br /><br />I'm suspecting the fuel filter. Any possible suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

P.S. The fuel tank is below the motor level. Could this be the problem?

Hi, Kanomi.<br /><br />If squeezing the primer bulb makes her run you have a fuel pump, tank, or fuel line problem.<br /><br />If that doesn't work and squirting a bit of fuel mix into the carb makes her run you have a gummed carb.<br /><br />Good luck.
