Ran into a suzuki df40d 2006 that has an idling issue. It idles fine for about 30 seconds then dies off. I changed all the fuel filters and fuel lines thought it fixed the issue. The motor was running good. I got a call and said that the engine still dying at idle, took off all the iac lines and cleaned them and made sure there were no blockages in the air lines, everything was fine idling good. I went to take it for a test run and put the cowl on and not 30 sec later the engine died. At this point i was thinking that the cowl was pinching an air line or was causing an electrical short of sorts. Found nothing checked all my wiring and there were no issues nothing was even close. The engine would die when i held the cowl 1/2 the way on. But if i left it off it ran fine. Other than a failed iac what would or could cause this to happen? Anyone had this happen to them before or ran into it. Any help would be appreciated.

Vent in cowling may be restricted. Sound proofing material in cowling blocking intake cover. You will have to reset the IAC special instruction in service manual.

Re: Suzi idling issue

Ill check the cowl more thoroughly i did check it out but i very easily could of over looked something wouldn't be the first and im sure it wont be the last. if the iac isn't running its full duty cycle say its stuck about a quarter open it shouldn't matter if the cowl is on or off is that correct? or could it be getting more air with the cowl off allowing it to stay running? I was reading in the manual and of the other sensors that would play a factor it doesn't sound to me like any of them would be the culprit because it runs fine once it gets going and it decelerates fine its just in idle there is an issue. Are there any bench test that can be run on the iac and can your take it apart without damaging anything looks like it might come apart but i dont know if it will damage anything. It describes the iac as a solenoid plunger so i should be able to apply voltage then blow through it maybe? thank you for the reply

Off the wall thought , exhaust leak dumping into cowl killing O2 needed to run.

thought about that would make sense but wouldn't that effect it more than just at idle?

Sorry, I did not see anything about running fine above idle.

Re: Suzi idling issue

Well finally made it out there and it was the base gasket leaking exhaust. At least I never bought that iac...I guess once you get going it pushes the exhaust with more pressure and doesn't allow it to build up...I dunno...Anyone know what could of caused it? Thank you for your help.
